Review of the Jordan 1 Retro AJKO Low Kentucky
Introducing the Jordan 1 Retro AJKO Low Kentucky, a classic that combines heritage and style. Born from the iconic Air Jordan lineage, this sneaker pays homage to the basketball culture of the University of Kentucky. It’s hard to find the answer of what the “KO” means and stands for with the AJKO’s. Some say it stands for “knock off”, other say it’s “Knock out”. Either way with its simple materials, good price, and retro design it’s definitely worth the buy for Jordan brand fans.

How Do Jordan 1 Retro AJKO Low Kentucky fit
Pros
- Light fitting
- Good traction
- Canvas upper is thin and flexible
- Comfortable foam tongue
- The Jordan 1 Retro AJKO fit true to size. However, the sizing of the AJKO Low’s can depend on how tight you want the fit. I like the roomy feel but if you want a tighter fit around the toe box I’d get half a size down
- The AJKO’s can fit wider feet. Not as wide of a fit as the Low Dunks but still has a roomy interior
- Subtle curve on the heel
Cons
- not as much padding or support as the Jordan 1 Low
- feet can get a little hot. Although the canvas is light and thin there aren’t any perforations through out the shoe and the toe box
- low tech shoe

Canvas Upper
The canvas upper on the Jordan 1 Retro AJKO Low Kentucky is a tough layer with very little padding. The most notable difference from the Jordan 1 lows is the lack of the padding along the sides, toes, and collar.
This type of canvas is very flexible and somewhat breathable. Since there aren’t perforations throughout the siding or toe box your feet can get a bit warm If you decide to wear without socks you can count on your feet getting
Insole, interior, and outsole on the Jordan 1 Retro AJKO Low Kentucky
The insole on the Jordan 1 Retro AJKO Low Kentucky is polyurethane. Its lower in density but has higher flexibility with great cushion. If the feet get sweaty its good for water/moisture absorption. Its not as thick as other insoles but the cushion is top notch.
There isn’t a lot of tech included with the Jordan 1 Retro AJKO Low Kentucky. The interior is hollowed out and doesn’t offer a ton of padding along the sides of the canvas walls.
The collar has light padding but it doesn’t compare to the overall plushness of the Air Jordan 1 Low. I’m not sure why they decided to printed the shoe size on the collar but its present on the interior. The AJKO’s are still very comfortable but the fit exposes how the materials are not premium like a traditional Air Jordan 1 Low.
The outsole (picture below) is durable rubber. The cup-sole function adds to the durability, cushion, arch and heel support.
The tongue has a thin white layer covering the foam so it looks off white or sail in certain lighting but its just a result of the white layer being see through. It comes with a fresh nike logo patch at the top. Included is an optional lace hole in the middle.
Overall the tongue is very comfortable because its light, thin, and flexible. Not a lot to it but the basic foam tongue is still one of the better options to have on a shoe if you’ll be in them for long periods of time.
Blue vs. Sail Laces
The Jordan 1 Retro AJKO Low Kentucky come with two sets of shoe laces. They arrived with the Kentucky blue laces intact but come with the sail (white) laces packaged on the side. Both laces look great but I personally prefer the sail laces. It matches the sail midsole and breaks up the blue color dominated by the overlays in the canvas upper. Can’t go wrong with either option though.

Why You Should Buy Jordan 1 Retro AJKO Low Kentucky
- Great price. You should be able to find the Jordan 1 Retro AJKO Low Kentucky under $90. Great entry point to grab a version of Jordan 1’s without the traditional Jordan 1 price thats usually in the $120’ish range.
- Good alternative to the Jordan 1 Low’s which appear to be everywhere
- If you’re a fan of canvas uppers and want alternatives to Converse Chuck Taylors or other low tops
Why You Shouldn’t Buy Jordan 1 Retro AJKO Low Kentucky
- As mentioned these AJKO’s don’t come with the latest up and coming shoe technology. They’re very basic so if you’re looking for more padding along the sides or toes you should buy the Air Jordan 1 Lows.
