The simplicity and functionality of the shoe made it popular in the gym and recent years, the CrossFit community adopted the shoe because of its durability. Gradually, the Workout Plus made its way to the every day casual sneaker fan because of the simple silhouette design. Reebok Workout Plus Casual Shoe Comfort Analysis

Leather Upper

The upper on the Reebok workout plus is full grain leather with leather overlays. Full grain leather just means that the leather hasn’t been sanded or buffed and is more resistant to scratches or tears. The most unique part of the upper includes an “H-strap” that anchors the laces and is a floppy overlay over the side of the shoe (only floppy if not tied). This is to help with support and originated when the Workout Plus was released for athletes. The leather perforated toe box doesn’t offer a ton of air flow but upper can still support duel functionality as a decent lifting or casual shoe.

Insole, interior, and outsole

The insoles on the workout plus are a thin memory foam padded sockliner. The material around the collar is soft and padded but offers strong support.

The EVA midsole helps with cushioning and shock absorption. When the Workout Plus was released they were built for cross training, running, and lifting so they required a midsole that could take a beating but provide support with additional cushioning. This makes it nice even if you just plan to wear casually or all day for work.

The outsole is a high abrasion rubber outsole that was built for concrete, hardwood, or rubber training surfaces.  Over the years the Workout Plus’ transitioned from an athletic performance staple to a solid casual l fit. So wearing them for walking commutes will offer plenty of protection through the streets and sidewalks.

The tongue of the Workout Plus is thin but is padded with the “Reebok Classic” logo patched on the front. Unlike other Reeboks that have thicker foam tongues, the tongue on the Workout Plus is incredibly soft and is a good contrast to the leather overlays and the H-strap along the sides that offer firm support.

Breathability

When it comes to breathability, the Workout Plus are not designed with great ventilation. There are perforations on the toe box but since the upper is mainly leather, including leather overlays, your foot can get hot pretty easily if you’re active. The fit of the Workout Plus is snug, which isn’t a negative, but if you plan to wear to the gym or in warm climates just know that the ventilation and air flow isn’t there. If you need something that can keep your feet cool, check out some of Reebok’s mesh constructed sneakers.

Reebok Workout Plus Casual shoe for lifting and the gym

The workout plus is good in the gym for power or casual lifters. The flat based construct helps with power exercises like squats, push press, hang cleans, and kettlebell workouts. If you’re into CrossFit, the Workout Plus are for you. I wouldn’t recommend for long runs. Instead, check out Reebok’s latest training shoes that have better tech to support a well rounded workout.

Why You Should Buy Reebok Workout Plus Casual Shoe

  • Great price. You can buy these in the $60 range and they’re widely available for purchase.
  • Retro, athletic, unique low cut training shoe that can now be worn as a great casual shoe
  • If you need your casual shoe to double as a lifting or workout shoe the Workout Plus can offer duel functionality

Why You Shouldn’t Buy Reebok Workout Plus Casual Shoe

  • The Workout Plus are a bulky shoe so it can limit how you can wear and style them. Skinnier pants not the best choice
  • If you want less of a cross trainer look for casual settings or the office, look at Reebok alternatives like the Club C Vintage
  • If you’re not a fan of a dominant outsole, don’t buy the Workout Plus shoe. Since the outsole design creeps up on the heel it creates a unique look that some may not prefer.

How to style Reebok Workout Plus Casual Shoe

Reebok Workout Plus for the Office: Recommend. Even though these were built for the gym they go great with jeans and khakis that aren’t too slim or tight. Since they are a bulkier shoe wear them with a wider pant opening. Better for walking around the office vs. clients visits or onsite meetings.

Reebok Workout Plus for Casual Setting: Highly Recommend. The athletic/cross trainer look can go well with pretty much any casual outfit.

Reebok Workout Plus for lounging and working out: Highly recommend. They’ll go with sweats, shorts, etc. but can be a great choice for the gym, especially lifting or short explosive workouts with basic cutting and agility excercises.
